ISLAMIC, Persia (Post-Seljuk). Khwarizm Shahs. 'Ala al-Din Muhammad II, AH 596-617 / AD 1200-1220. Dirham (Bronze, 38 mm, 5.88 g, 1 h), broad 'Sultani' type, Parab. Citing the ʿAbbasid caliph al-Nasir li-din Allah (AH 575-622 / AD 1180-1225) in small letters, line 5, ‘al-Nāṣir’, line 1, ‘li-dīn Allāh’; Kalima in three lines, ‘lā ilāha illā / Allāh Muḥammad / rasūl Allāh’ (‘There is no deity but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah’ in Arabic), all within two concentric circles. Rev. Within a circle, ‘sulṭānī’ at the top; citing the ruler in four lines as ‘al-Sulṭān al-ʿādil / ʿAlā al-Dunyā wa / al-Dīn Abuʾl-Fatḥ Muḥammad / ibn Takish’; illegible word(s) in the margin.
